Hello
Sorry to bother you. I found this forum when looking through google for forums to use. I need
to install a forum on my church website but I cannot find where it is sold.
Where did you get this one
Thanks for any assistance

Hi Nancy
The software I use for this forum is phpBB, which is a very widely used forum and best of all it is free.
Just head over to http://www.phpbb.com/ and grab a copy.
All you need is a webhost with PHP & MySQL (and some knowledge of course), and ideally a development environment to test things out before you go 'live' (i.e. a PC running Apache, MySQL, PHP).

One thing I should mention...
In my experience as soon as the forum goes live, you get a who bunch of idiots trying to post links to pharmacy sites, etc.
I installed a few modifications (again you can get these from the PHPBB site (though I did a few tweaks myself)).
The important ones are:
1. 'Active Members Only (Author: defender-uk)', Only display active members.
2.'Hide memberlist': disable Guests from viewing member lists or profile (requires logon)
3. 'Anti-Spam' (Author: calamus77): Members must be registered for at least X days and have more than Y posts (configurable on the admin config page) before they can post URLs. Guest user can never post URLs.
That pretty much takes care of the 'idiots' out there.
If you like I have a 'pre-modded' version of this which I'd be glad to send you.
The new version on PHPBB (ver3) looks really cool, but I'm sticking with version 2 until I can get hold of (or find time to write) the above Mods for version 3.
