Use articles as sources for your writing

Hello, I just got a job for a magazine/blog. The main job is to report the latest news on current affairs, technology, and art.

In those articles, I will synthesize quotes from sources of other newspapers on the same topic. I want to ask is there any way to quote without touching copyright issues?

I think I will use words like: "According to "this" newspaper reported..." and below it will be written that materials from newspapers are used and will be listed. Is that possible? Thank.

Hi timharvey and welcome to the forum,

News reporting has always held a special status within copyright law and since the method which you mention is still used today as a source by all newspapers, the law expressly permits this (see section 30(2) of the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988). Paraphrasing and minimal acknowledgements are both acceptable within this context.
