Hi
I run a blog and a friend warned me I might be wise to check copyright. In one example, I have a free to read article on my site which uses an image from an episode of the X Files. I never thought anything of it, it fits nicely and I loved the program, so I used it! But now I am wondering if that was a mistake and may breach copyright, and if I am liable for being sued by someone? Can anyone offer some thoughts please?
Copyright images on blog
Re: Copyright images on blog
Hi stanley,
Assuming that there is no connection between the text of the article and the X Files episode then it would be advisible to remove the image. However if the article is critiquing the X Files, or possibly the reviewing the work of an actor or director etc involved in the scene portrayed in the image, then using it to illustrate a point you wish to make would be fair dealing (see section 30 of the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988), provided that you also credit the image as being from the show.

Interesting, thanks very much. and No, I am not critiquing so I don't think Fair Use would apply, best remove it!
Thanks again
