Uploading documents

Post by steve54334 »

Hi,

I have been asked by a charity to look after their web site. As far as I know this involves uploading educational resources written by other people (with their permission). I am quite happy to do this but do have a concern over copyright issues.

What happens if someone uses an image or text that is protected by copyright without permission? Am I responsible for the infringement (as the person who uploaded it) or is the author of the document responsible? If it is me is there a way I can protect my self e.g. Get the author to send me an email declaring that either they own the copyright or it is copyright free or they have permission to use the material from the copyright holder.

Thanks,

Steve.

Your idea of getting the author to send you an email is a good solution - that way you have written proof that you acted in good faith.
