Hi there.
I have been searching around the web trying to find an answer for my question but i cant anywhere. Hopefully somebody can help me.
In a nutshell, my band are releasing our first album through an independent record label in November this year, on two of the tracks we would like to use Audio snippits from two films, Fight Club and Taxi Driver. These will be placed at the end of the appointed song leading into the next song.
I briefly remember from college that if you were to use under 30 seconds of the audio you would not need to obtain the right to use the sample but i am unsure as to whether I am correct with this.
If somebody could answer my question or lead me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

The correct course of action is to obtain permission to use these samples before you publish your album - your publisher will probably be able to help you with this.
There is no such limit that is deemed acceptable - if you are copying someone else's work you should get their permission - cases have been made and won for far less than 30 seconds....

Some guy down the pub told me so it must be true :)
Oh, the old "it's OK if you only use [insert a random number here]%" theory... This is an old myth with no basis in law.
What is clear in cases that have gone to court is that the amount you use does not matter - if you use without permission you are infringing and run the risk of legal action.
Heres a famous case involving a 2 second transformed sample: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridgeport ... sion_Films[/url]
