Government Publication

Post by buckleye »

I make up electronic coursepacks for lecturers at a university in London. We have been asked to include a speech by President Sukarno from 1948, that we hold here in our library catalogue. However it was published by the Indonesian Information Service New Delhi. How do I go about trying to obtain copyright permission from an international government organisation for work published over 50 years ago?!?!? Please advise!!!!

Hi buckleye,
I would suggest the Information Section of the Indonesian Embassy should be able to sort that out for you. I cannot imagine there will be any problem with re-publishing an official transcript of a speech. Although Sukarno was ousted from the Presidency and died while under house arrest, I believe that his reputation has been somewhat restored in modern day Indonesia.
