I would be really very grateful if someone could help me with this. I have been asked to produce a range of downloadable digital content for mobiles - some football themed.
I'm aware that club logos and badges are copyrighted, but can anyone tell me if there would be an issue with just using the club name? For example, for an animated screensaver - not created in a font associated with the club's logo.

Names are not subject to copyright in their own right - so probably not a question for this forum 
I suspect that the issues here are more to do with:
1) is this a trademark infringement? or,
2) could your actions be viewed as unjustly implying association with or endorsement by the club for your product.
