Writing a sequel

Way back in the 1970s I read a historical novel based in the 18th century which I always felt ended very abruptly and I've long had it in mind to write a sequel. My intention is not just to give a better ending to the story but to introduce new readers to a once popular but now sadly-neglected ...

Thanks for another superb answer. This forum really is a boon and your answers in particular.

My reason for raising this particular question (as distinct from the previous one) is because photography started to boom in the 1950s and a lot of those photographs are now coming on the market as ...

And yet another query about photographs

Copyright exists for at least as long ...

Thanks for such a prompt reply and for the most helpful advice.

As you say, museums are depending more and more on revenue from licensing pictures but some of them are beginning to get greedy, to the point at which using their illustrations in small, specialist publications is now becoming an ...

Re: Another query about images

To correct the above, that should have read "the copyright has expired, so is there any reason why I shouldn't buy a print and use it as I wish?

To add an extra bit of information; the picture is of the chairman of a major early-20th century company and was almost certainly used for publicity ...

Another query about images

A company (Media Storehouse) is offering for sale through Amazon a print that I would like to use to accompany a magazine article.

The Amazon page says nothing about restrictions on the use of the photograph. It simply says © Copyright [the name of the museum that owns the negative].

The ...

That answer also helps me with a query I have.

Can I ask a couple of supplementary questions, though?

1) Am I correct in thinking then that a photograph taken in 1955 is now out of copyright but one taken in 1957 will be subject to photographer's death +70 years?

2) In a separate case, unlike ...

Presumably, though, if you can get hold of an original of the postcard (and it is out of copyright, as seems likely given its age), there will be no restrictions on you scanning that and using it on your blog item. It might be worth looking on the various websites that advertise postcards for sale ...
