We want to record an acoustic session with some local bands, and stream the content online. The gig is for a commercial company, but not to make any money - purely to generate content for our website.

Are we ok to do cover tracks? Do we need to gain copyright permission? If so who are the best ...

Like so many others have already said, this thread is really helpful! To add another dimension to the query, we've been filming bands (with their written permission) for our website. My question is whether we also need written permission from the band's record labels?
