Re: Tools the Enable Copyright Infringement

Thank Andy - I will certainly read the judgement with interest. I am very familiar with SAS having created client solutions with it for many years

Re: Tools the Enable Copyright Infringement

Many thanks. This keeps raising more questions in my mind.

If a person takes some software code created by someone else, modifies it and distributes the modified code as their own. I take that to a copyright infringement?

No if instead of modifying a piece of code they take that code or a part of ...

Re: Tools the Enable Copyright Infringement

Thanks Andy for you patience in reading my long winded explanations!

The Binary Code is definitely executed by the graphics engine as a set of instructions as to what to draw, display etc. It does not have an extension such as .exe or .dll (libraries) and can't be executed outside the simulator ...

Re: Tools the Enable Copyright Infringement

Thanks very much Andy. You have clarified my ramblings on this. I am now clear that my software is essentially "programming Software" It creates code which is then used in flight simulators to display airports. The code used is rendered by a graphics engine so is for all intents software. I am sure ...

Copyright Images in On-line Forum

My apologies for asking another question. I am a joint administrator for a forum (similar to this one). The question is :-

if a member posts an image which is found to be copyright by PicRights or similar who would be liable for the infringement. The poster, the forum or both or none!

Thanks ...

Tools the Enable Copyright Infringement

My Software enables the user to create original content but also modify third party content. It can also reverse engineer third party content.

The general position taken so far is to warn users not to modify or reverse engineer third party content without the permission of the original creator. The ...

Copyright Statement with Dates

Apologies if this is dealt with elsewhere.

My software has a statement "Copyright 2007 - 2020 ScruffyDuck Software"

Does this mean anything special to include dates. The software originates from 2007 but is still being developed in 2022.

Is there an implication that the copyright expired in ...

Re: PicRights Solicitor Letter Demanding Fee For Alleged Image Use

Just to close this off. The Marketing/Promotional license for two years exceeded the amount asked to settle the claim by a significant margin so for this specific situation I accepted their figure.

That clarifies things very nicely. I will certainly be very careful about using images in the future without being absolutely sure they can be freely used.

Re: PicRights Solicitor Letter Demanding Fee For Alleged Image Use

Andy thank you very much for your quick and helpful reply.

I hope that I may take a little more of your time in whether my use of the image was editorial or not. The site is for a piece of software which is now entirely free to all users but at the time the image was used the fully functional ...

Re: PicRights Again

Please accept my apologies in advance if I should have created a new Topic. My defence is that my post is on the same subject as the others in this topic.

First I would like to thank y'all very much for the posts here and the information shared. I recently received one of the fabled emails from ...
